About Preparation

About Exam

The IELTS, or International English Language Testing System, is a widely recognized test for non-native English speakers who wish to study, work, or migrate to an English-speaking country. It assesses four key language skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. There are two types of IELTS tests — Academic and General Training. The Academic test is for those applying to universities or higher education, while the General Training test is for individuals seeking work opportunities or immigration. IELTS scores range from 1 to 9, reflecting the test taker’s level of English proficiency. Whether your goal is to pursue a degree or build a career abroad, IELTS serves as proof of your language abilities.

Test Structure

The IELTS test is divided into four modules: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each module is scored individually in bands, and an overall band score is calculated by averaging them. While the Listening, Speaking, and Reading modules are the same for all candidates, the Writing and Reading modules differ based on whether they are taking the Academic or General Training version of the test

Score Pattern

The IELTS Listening test follows a Band Score pattern to evaluate performance. Each correct answer out of the 40 questions earns a mark, and these raw scores are converted to the IELTS 9-band scale using a Band Score conversion table. Accurate spelling and grammar are crucial when transferring answers to the answer sheet, as mistakes can lower your score. The final score is calculated by averaging the band scores from all four modules — Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking — to determine the overall band score.
