It assesses four key language skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. There are two types of IELTS tests — Academic and General Training. The Academic test is for those applying to universities or higher education, while the General Training test is for individuals seeking work opportunities or immigration. IELTS scores range from 1 to 9, reflecting the test taker’s level of English proficiency. The IELTS test is divided into four modules: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each module is scored individually in bands, and an overall band score is calculated by averaging them. While the Listening, Speaking, and Reading modules are the same for all candidates, the Writing and Reading modules differ based on whether they are taking the Academic or General Training version of the test

The IELTS Listening test follows a Band Score pattern to evaluate performance. Each correct answer out of the 40 questions earns a mark, and these raw scores are converted to the IELTS 9-band scale using a Band Score conversion table. Accurate spelling and grammar are crucial when transferring answers to the answer sheet, as mistakes can lower your score. The final score is calculated by averaging the band scores from all four modules — Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking — to determine the overall band score.

IELTS is jointly managed by two organizations: the British Council and IDP (International Development Policy Australia), giving you the flexibility to choose the one that suits you best. Regardless of whether you opt for British Council or IDP, the exam format and fee, which is 29,500 NPR, will remain the same.
